In Indonesia there are more than 700 different languages and dialects, „Bahasa Indonesia“ is the offical one.
Es handelt sich um eine Form des Malayischen und ist die weltweit neunthäufigste Sprache.
In Manado sprechen viele Menschen gut englisch, aber im Landesinneren kann es hilfreich sein, wenn ihr wenigsten ein paar Brocken Bahasa Indonesia sprecht. Hier findet ihr ein paar Redewendungen.

- Good Morning – Selamat Pagi
- Good Day – Selamat Siang
- Good Afternoon (until 18.00) – Selamat Sore
- Good Evening (after 18.00) – Selamat Malam
- Goodbye/See you – Sampai jumpa
- See you later – Sampai jumpa lagi
- How are you? – Apa Kabar?
- I am fine. – Kabar Baik
- What’s your name? – Siapa nama anda?
- My name is … – Nama saya …
- Nice to meet you – Senang berkenalan dengan anda
- (Final) Goodbye (to the leaving person) – Selamat Jalan
- (Final) Goodbye (to the staying person) – Selamat Tinggal
- I don’t understand – Saya tidak mengerti
- I don’t speak indonesian – Saya tidak mengerti bahasa
